Chris Anthony grew up in the farm country of Mount Clemens Michigan with his parents, and three older siblings. His family spent countless hours playing music together. At the age of six, Chris received a snare drum for Christmas and the stage was literally set,…music was destined to be a huge part of his life.
Chris embraced his passion for music while attending the Interlochen Arts Academy for high school in northern Michigan. After graduating from Interlochen, Chris followed his music endeavors further by attending the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin Ohio, where he received his Bachelors of Music in percussion performance, studying under world renowned percussionist Michael Rosen. While attending Oberlin, his hard work allowed him to take part in special projects which landed him in New York City where he study with Joe Morello of the Dave Brubeck Quartet and with Alan Dawson of the Berkeley School of Music in Boston. Chris moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1989 to work on commercial music projects. Along with the side venture of owning San Francisco restaurants in the 90s, his music career blossomed for 10 years as music director “ From The Heart Music” an after school music program for children. Having worked in a classroom format, he then started his own business, “True Beat Music” doing private instruction for piano and percussion. Aside from private instruction, Chris is involved in a variety of groups, primarily as drummer for the 70’s dance band Dutch Uncle and the original rock trio, Rubberoom. Lately, Chris has been focused on his own compositions as well as studio recording sessions throughout the Bay Area. When not teaching or performing Chris is a advocate for the National Multiple Sclerosis society based in San Francisco where he continuously raises money (occasionally while setting new Guinness World Records for longest drum rolls) for the worthy cause that is close to home. Having worked with hundreds of students in the past years from San Carlos schools, Chris is very excited about the upcoming percussion ensemble at TL, and looks forward to working with all the kids for a fantastic year of music together!
